Searching for Lost Films of Long Ago
Moderne Mitgift: update
A curious update to our posting on Moderne Mitgift in our series of Marta and Jan's lost films, but first two clips.
Enjoy historic clips not only from Marta as the famous Austrian actress, "Therese Krones" (1801-1830), in the film by the same name, but also the renowned and beloved Tenor Leo Slezak in the role of the actor, poet and director Ferdinand Raimund (1790-1836) who had helped the young Therese in her rise to fame.
Slezak sings the famous "Hobellied (Da Streiten sich die Leut' herum)". Lyrics by Ferdinand Raimund; 1834 Music: Conradin Kreutzer (1780-1849). Note: Hobel is a carpenter's plane - the lyrics include the phrase: "People quarrel to no end about what is happiness".
Marta singing Ich träume immer nur von dem Einen Trans: "I dream only of the one".
Lyrics: Ernst Marischka (1893-1963)
Music: Franz Grothe (1908-1982).
We might also have called this posting "if only the chairs could speak, what a tale they could tell. BUT perhaps they can...."
Miraculously the chairs survived the war in Paris and have remained in the family ever since....
