Die Csárdásfürstin
In this 1934 film clip Marta Eggerth is singing a classic Operetta aria "Weißt du es noch?" - "Do you still remember?" from the famous Emmerich Kálmán Operetta, Die Csárdásfürstin - Princess Csardas. Stefan Frey, the eminent lecturer and authority on operetta, wrote in his book, "Laughter under Tears", that this was "Not simply an operetta turned movie, but a true movie operetta, among the best anywhere. Marta Eggerth is a perfect Sylva Varescu", the popular Hungarian cabaret star who is about to go on tour to the USA. Listening to Marta in the clip is "Prince Edwin" played by Hans Söhnker who is in love with Sylva but is supposed to marry his royal cousin. This aria, usually a duet, recalls the beautiful times. A story with a happy ending....
